USTF Flash Contest:  The USTF Flash is the official newsletter that is published monthly.  The Flash Annual Taekwon-Do Kids’ Art Contest for 2016 is on!  In past years we’ve had great entries from all over the U.S., and we hope for even more in 2016.  Anybody under 14 is eligible this year.  How can YOU enter?   Entries may be scanned and e-mailed as attachments to fmvh1@mac.com. In addition, actual original artwork may be submitted to “Flash Art Contest” at P.O. Box 853, Grafton WI 53024. However, original artwork should be submitted with an understanding it may not be returned (unless a suitable container or envelope for return is included).  Along with your entry please submit your name, rank, age, and the name of your school. All entries must be submitted by August 15.

Taekwon-Do Demonstration:  Thanks to all that participated in our recent demonstration at the Bellevue Library.  We appreciate Ms. Grant with allowing our class the opportunity to demonstrate our art and hopefully gain a few new students in the process.

Axe Taekwon-Do Tournament:  Congrats to all who participated in this year’s event.  This tournament was a little smaller this year but we are hoping that moving the event to April next year will help.  We would like to recognize the adult Black Belt Grand Champion, Ms. April Bowing, 5th dan.  Check out our Facebook page for more pictures from our tournament.

Taekwon-Do Testing:

On Saturday, June 11th we will conduct our quarterly promotion testing.  All students should attend, even those not testing.  You should consider this a normal class day to attend these events.  We will start at 12:30pm and anticipate the testing to take about 3 hours.  We have Mrs. Ragone testing for 4th degree black belt and Mrs. Chamberlin testing for 1st degree black belt.  We have roughly 22 other students testing for various color belt ranks.  It should be a great display of Taekwon-Do including several demonstrations of self-defense routines and some outstanding breaking.

Testing Dinner:

The dinner is scheduled for 5:30pm at Papa Reno’s Pizza, 2861 Capehart Road, Bellevue, Nebraska.  We will provide more information at the testing.  This is a great time to celebrate your hard work with us.  From a recent article on Etiquette as a reminder before this social event:

Etiquette:

1. Maintain proper seating while eating, don’t run around and make noise.

2. Wait for the senior member of the party to eat or drink first.

3. Do not stand or leave the table while eating without being excused.

4. Do not bring uninvited guests (for this event all Axe TKD students and their families are invited)

5. Use proper language in conversation, observe the Tenets of Taekwon-Do.

6. Speak with humbleness.  Be polite at all times.

7. Always address people with proper titles.

8. Be a good listener and do not interrupt others.

9. Juniors should offer opinions ONLY if solicited by their seniors.

We could write a book on proper etiquette, the easy rule is to remember would be that all students behave the way they do when in uniform in class.  Relax and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow students, juniors and seniors, but remember we are always in Taekwon-Do and our rules always apply.  This is what truly sets us apart from other programs.  We are a martial art at all times.

Taekwon-Do Tournaments:  Sr. Master Todd will be making a list of students that want to attend the upcoming tournaments.  They offer an excellent adventure and challenge for our students.  There will be tournaments in Casper, Wyoming and Kirksville, Missouri in September and in Broomfield, Colorado in October.  When you notice that some students test on time every time and they look outstanding that is probably because they rarely miss class and attend multiple tournaments per year.  The simple truth is that the more you train the better you will become in Taekwon-Do.

Axe Taekwon-Do Medals:  What did you think of our medals for the tournament?  They looked outstanding and a special congrats to Mr. Kevin Bushor for obtaining them for us.  These medals will set our event apart from the others.

The Original Taekwon-Do:

Do you know why we use that phrase?  It is because we, unlike other places stating they teach Taekwon-Do can draw our lineage directly to the founder of Taekwon-Do, Gen. Choi Hong Hi.  Gen. Choi was Sr. Grand Master Sereff’s instructor.  Everything you will be taught was directly handed down from Gen. Choi.  We still follow his methods to the exact degree.  We have not altered the patterns, or any techniques.  We still teach the way it was created.  The Taekwon-Do taught at Axe Taekwon-Do is THE original martial art developed and named in 1955 by Gen. Choi, the father of Taekwon-Do.
