Promotion Testing November 19th:

REMINDER! Our next testing date is Thursday, November 19th.  Students must know all of their new requirements and be able to demonstrate them without assistance, and also must be actively training (a minimum of 7 classes per month), have tuition current, and have demonstrated the correct attitude in class.  Testing forms will be handed out soon to those who have met the requirements for this testing cycle.

No Class – Thursday, Nov 26th – Thanksgiving:

You are invited!

The Axe family holiday party is on Tuesday, December 22 beginning at 6 pm.  This is a casual pot luck dinner where students and their families come to enjoy great food and fun. Again this year, we will have another chili contest.  Simply bring in a pot of your favorite chili and let the tasting begin! The winner will receive a free month of class, anyone can enter a dish.  The winner is determined by majority vote.  Mrs. Duralia and Mrs. Chamberlin have graciously volunteered to organize this festive event.  More information and sign-ups will be sent home the first week of December!

Need gift ideas?

As the holiday season approaches, keep in mind we can get items at a discount through our commercial account.  Gift suggestions might be a new dobok, personal sparring gear, USTF books, or an Axe Taekwon-Do school jacket.  Please contact Mr. Bushor if you would like more information about any of these products.  Some items take a week or two for shipping so make orders soon!

Do you have something to share?

Senior Master Todd wants to hear your thoughts about Taekwon-Do and your experiences being in class.  Anyone, including parents, is welcome to submit an article anytime throughout the month. With approval, the article will be put in the next month’s newsletter.  Share your thoughts; others can benefit from them!

Congratulations!

Last month, Axe Taekwon-Do travelled to Broomfield, CO for the USTF Sr. Grand Master Sereff tournament.  The competition this year was tough, but many of the students took home the gold!  We had several students placing in the competition.  The Axe TKD Junior Breaking Team placed first and the Axe Adult Breaking Team finished in third place.  Congrats to all.

Weather Policy:  If the base closes due to weather, the Youth Center will close.  We never close class on our own.  We will have class as long as the Youth Center is open. However, use your best judgment with your safety in mind.  In the event the Youth Center closes, we will post the closure on Facebook and attempt to email and/or call everyone.  As you know living in Nebraska, the weather can change very quickly; please keep in mind that you will be notified as soon as possible.

Axe Taekwon-Do Website & Facebook:

We have a website at www.axetkd.com and are listed on Facebook at AXE Taekwon-Do.  We post all newsletters from Axe Taekwon-Do and from the USTF on the website and many other items are on the website.  One area of interest is the black belt profiles.  It is a good place to learn a little more about some of the people that are instructing you.  We post numerous pictures on Facebook from testings, tournaments, etc.  I often hear, “I am not on Facebook”.  Just look around and enjoy our pictures.  You can actually look around at our pictures without joining Facebook.  Remember however if you post or comment that we have an international audience viewing our comments and pictures, observe strict etiquette at all times.  Taekwon-Do students must be polite ladies and gentlemen at all times regardless of rank or age.

Testing – February 6th 2016:

This will be a large testing and we plan to have it on a Saturday starting at noon.  Eligible for this

testing will be Mrs. Ragone to 4th degree black belt; Ms. Matos to 3rd degree black belt; Ms. Chamberlin and Mr. Ostrander to 2nd degree black belt.  We will also also schedule an early dinner after the testing.  More information as we get closer to the event.

10 reasons to attend World TKD Camp!

10.  Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA is located near the Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.  The camp is safe, clean and beautiful!  The camp is located near Winter Park, Rocky Mountain National Park & Grand Lake.

9.  Each day students will be treated to warm breakfasts, nutritious lunches, and a variety of healthy dinners to include delicious desserts!  We never felt hungry last year and enjoyed every meal prepared!

8.  During camp students participate in a variety of activities that create memories of a lifetime.  Last summer, we went horseback riding, hiked up to a waterfall, took pictures IN a waterfall (So much fun!), and took a polar plunge in a Rocky Mountain lake!  We also had a day in a small town training in the park and ate a picnic lunch there.  Simply breathtaking!

7.  The lodges provided are clean and comfortable.  Students are roomed together according to age and gender.  All we need to bring is our toiletries, pillow and a blanket!

6.  Games and team building:  during camp there are many games that are designed to challenge students, for example sparring while tied to another person to encourage team work.  The senior instructors create safe games for the students to foster teamwork.

5. The Taekwon-Do students that attend this event are talented, polite, and dedicated!  We had the privilege of meeting people from all over the globe.  The largest group was from Australia.  They are an incredible group of people!  Everyone has built relationships that will last a lifetime.  They are going to return for the 2016 camp.

4. Students have the opportunity to meet many of the senior instructors from the USTF.  Many of these instructors were personally taught by General Choi, the founder of Taekwon-Do.  Their stories and training are priceless!

3. General Choi (Founder of Taekwon-Do) believed in the five disciplines of moral culture:

a. Travel:  Patriotism can be gained through visiting historical or noted areas.

b. Mountain Climbing: This develops leg muscles, nourishes the spirit and promotes a feeling of victory and triumph.

c. Cold showers and baths:  By taking cold showers and baths or exercising on snow-covered ground in bare feet, students build tenacity and pride.

d. Public service: By contributing labor to the community, especially to the poor or disabled, students learn charity, humility, comradeship and tolerance.

e. Etiquette:  Western and Orient cultures value practice of etiquette and social norms.  Students should practice inside and outside the dojang.

2.  Personal growth and confidence are gained by a student being in a training environment with other students 24 hours a day during the week of camp.  Confidence is bolstered by interacting with students from around the world.

1.  We have FUN while training!
